Password Protected Directories
What are password-protected directories? What do they imply for your Internet site?
A password-protected directory or area is a folder which can be accessed only when a username and a password are provided, so no unauthorized individuals can check out its content. This function may be used for the main folder of a specific site or only for a certain subfolder based upon your needs. For instance, when you are building a new site and you don't want people to see it prior to it being 100% ready, you have to restrict the access to it as a whole, and if you would like only some people to be able to access particular files, you are able to password-protect only a particular folder, while the other parts of the site may be seen by everyone. In either case, a “403 Forbidden” error page will appear when the login details the visitor types in aren't correct. Even a direct link to a file won't work as long as any folder above it is password-protected.

Password Protected Directories in Cloud Hosting
Creating a password-protected area shall take just several clicks and a few seconds when you host your sites in a
cloud hosting account with us. You'll not have to do anything challenging - you will need to select a domain/subdomain, to select which folder under it must be protected, and then to enter the login name and password that'll be used to access that folder. If a number of individuals need their own login credentials, there shall not be a problem to set up numerous different usernames with access to the exact same folder. All protected folders shall appear with a padlock icon inside the File Manager section, so you'll always know where this function is enabled. If you'd like to disable the protection function for any folder, you can disable it from the same section of the CP where you have enabled it.

Password Protected Directories in Semi-dedicated Servers
When you have a
semi-dedicated server account with our company, you will be able to protect any content that you've uploaded by using our protection tool. Its interface is as basic and intuitive as that of the Hepsia Control Panel it's a part of, so you shall not need to type in any code at any time. You'll simply need to pick one of the domains/subdomains which you have in the hosting account and to pick which folder has to be password-protected - the website’s root folder or some folder below it. You can then type in the username and the password, which will be stored in encrypted form in our system, and you shall be good to go. The protection shall be turned on instantly, so anyone that tries to access the recently protected folder will have to enter the correct login information. In cases where a number of people must be able to access the same content, you could make a separate username for each of them.
